I told you about the team event in my first post. I will tell you something about the individual event now.
It started on Tuesday 7 April in the evening and it ended on Sunday 12 April.

Tuesday 7 April: When the final of the team event ended we went back to the hotel. The individual tournament started at 17.15. So we had some free time. The weather was nice and everybody was sitting outside.
After a couple of hours we had to go back to the hall. We had to linejudge two lines again. This was a little bit hard, because it was not what we used to.
I had some problems with my throat on the court. I was coughing all the time.
After a long day, it was time to have a diner. We had some pasta again and this time we had some chicken too. It was a little bit dry and I didn’t chew so much. That was a problem for me because I didn’t get any breath anymore. I went outside for some fresh air and I coughed a lot. A few minutes long I couldn’t talk. I was being okay after ten minutes.
There was a party downstairs the hotel, because the team event ended today. I was wondering how healthy some of the linejugdes were the Wednesday. There was a lot of drank and I think some of them had drunk a little bit too much :P .
I had the next matches:
Elin Thora Eliasdottir & Rakel Johannsdottir (ISL) – Carmen Thanei & Katrin Thanei (ITA)
Valentin Klotzner & Simon Oberprantacher (ITA) – Mircea Vasiu & Radu Vasiu (ROM)
Magda Lozniceriu & Sonia Olariu (ROM) – Alyssa Lim & Kate Robertshaw (ENG)

Wednesday 8 April: It was going to be a long day. There were a lot of matches. The first match started on 09.00 o’clock and the last match was planned on 20.10.
We had a warm jacket for the team event and luckily we had for the individual event some T-shirts. Ten new linejudges came to help us. I thought they played badminton too, but they were volleyball umpires. It was funny to see how they were linejudging. Most of them were doing it actually okay.
I had more free time because we had more persons in a team.
I spoke with one of the Italian linejudges, Andrea. He was very nice to me and I had a lot of conversations with him. It was a nice experience to practice my English.
I had a little problem with screaming loud “OUT”. My throat was still hurting me. Luckily, there wasn’t a lot of noisy which was by the team event.
It was busy in the bus on the way back and one of the coaches was surprised when I talked Dutch with her. A lot of umpires, linejudges, coaches and players thought I came from Italy.
We had a piano concert from one of the linejudges. She was playing very beautiful.
I had the next matches today:
David Ramirez & Carolina Chan (ESP) – Lukas Zevi & Lucie Havlova (CZE)
Tony Stephenson & Sinead Chambers (IRL) – Gareth Cox & Bethan Higginson (WAL)
Mykola Martynenko & Natalya Voytsekh (UKR) – Rafael Galvez & Ana Maria Martin (ESP)
Steffen Rasmussen (DEN) – Mariek Teller (CZE)
Kirsten Geals (SCO) – Busenur Korkmaz (TUR)

Debbie Janssens & Jelske Snoeck (BEL) – Eliska Maixnerova & Adela Moinariova (CZE)

Thursday 9 April: I had again a half day free. I was hoping for nobody was sending me a text message again. I think I hoped a lot because my brother sent me a text message. I woke up again on 7.30. That wasn’t funny.
I didn’t know what to do this morning and I had a breakfast first. There I decided to go to the town centre with Robert, Kai and a German linejudge Winfried. I didn’t understand what we planned and after a couple of times going upstairs I understood what the planning was.
We went to the town centre and I was looking for a present for my brother. We went also the a Ferrari shop. It was a combination between a fan shop and a museum. It was nice to see all the race cars.
Finally, I found a present for my brother. An Inter Milan football T-shirt of Ibrahimovic.
We went from the town centre to the hall with the metro.
I wish I had to linejudge the matches I wanted to see. Unfortunately, I didn’t have these matches. I almost had a fight with one of the coaches.
I was playing badminton too. Some of the Italian linejudges brought their racket with themselves so I could play too.
When we were back in the restaurant the diner came after 45 minutes.
There was a party for the umpires but we were invited too. The Belgian linejduge, Freddy, offered everybody a glass of liquor with 50% alcohol. That was funny to see.
I had the next matches today:
Vladislav Chislov (ISR) – Mathias Borg (SWE)
Oznur Caliskan (TUR) – Kate Robertshaw (ENG)

Friday 10 April: There were two shifts today. We had round 4 in the morning and the quarter finals started at 15.00 o’clok. I had the TV-court today and there were a lot of tough matches I was happy that I didn’t have court 1. The longest match of the whole tournament was playing here. The length of the match was an hour and 18 minutes. I can tell you that is a lot for a badminton match.
We had 5 minutes silence before the Mixed Doubles were starting in round 4. The silence was for the earthquake.
I had two hours free, because we had to wait for the next round (the quarter finals). I went to the park near the hall. It was a beautiful day with a lot of sunshine.  So I could make a lot of beautiful pictures of the view from the park.
It was a hill and you could go to the highest point. I didn’t go that heigh, but I had a nice view. I made also pictures of some flowers.
I went back to the hall and the Italian linejudges were sitting there. I couldn’t sit inside with the nice weather so I asked Andrea to came outside with me.
We went to the park and we talked a little bit about stuff. It was a little bit hard to have a conversation, because he needed a translator. But we understand each other with some explanation.
It was time to linejudge the quarter finals.  I didn’t have tough matches this time except the last one. It was the latest of the evening and the first two sets were nice. The last one won easily by the German boys.
We had pasta again for dinner and I promised myself that I couldn’t eat pasta for the first five years.
Finally, I sent the postcards to my teammate, my dad and home.
I went with Andrea to his room and we were talking a lot about some different stuff. It was interesting to hear something about the personalities of Italian people.
I think I had a fight with a mosquitoe in the middle of the night.  Something was buzzing around me and I hit my nose. I didn’t hear the buzz anymore so I guess I hit the mosquitoe:).
I had the next matches today:
Kasper Lehikoinen (FIN)Nikolaj Persson (GER)
Steffen Rasmussen (DEN) – Mathias Borg (SWE)
Huseyin Oruc & Rabia Kurtulus (TUR) – Alexandre Francoise & Audrey Fontaine (FRA)
Jacco Arends & Selena Piek (NED)
– Florian Gauthier & Andrea Vanderstukken (FRA)
Richard Domke (GER) – Steffen Rasmussen (DEN)
Jonas Geigenberger & Andreas Heinz (GER) – Matevz Bajuk (SLO) & Matthias Bertsch (AUT)

Saturday 11 April: The semifinals were today and we had just a couple of matches. Our court was ready with the first match when the other court had already begun with the third match. We had a lot of three games. Both of the women’s singles were tough and it was a nice match to see for the spectators. I knew it would be a tough final!
After the semifinals we went back to the hotel. I didn’t know what to do and I was lying on my bed. I fell asleep of course. After three hours I woke up and made me ready for dinner. I wore white clothes. I went down and I had to go upstairs for a couple of times because I forgot something.
We went to another restaurant than we ate the other days. They said it was just 250 meters from the hotel. I thought it was Italian meters, because we walked more than 250 meters!
It was a beautiful restaurant. The food didn’t taste as good as at the other restaurant.
We went back to the hotel and we were sitting in the lobby. After a couple of hours everybody went to their room and I was sitting with some linejudges. A lot of them had drunk too much and I had a lot of fun with them. One of them was telling a long and funny story about me, my roommate and the Italian boys. He told the story ten times and it was being complicated. It was 1.30 when everybody went upstairs. I couldn’t sleep so I went to the room of the Italian boys. One of them was sleeping and after a couple of minutes he was awake. Andrea turned the music on (in the middle of the night). There other two. Carmelo and Alberto were playing badminton in the hotel room in the middle of the night. A boy of the staff, Federico came also to have some fun. I was lying on the bed and they hit me with a shuttle for more than ten times. I was being tired and I made a picture with these boys because they were so sweet and funny. I needed a picture for my memories!
It was 3.00 o ‘clock when I fell asleep. I had to stand up early again.
I had the next matches:
Anastasia Chervyakova & Romina Gabdullina (RUS) – Jessica Fletcher & Sarah Milne (ENG)
Selena Piek & Iris Tabeling (NED)
– Elena Komendrovskaya & Ksenia Polikarpova (RUS)

Sunday 12 April: It would be a big day. The finals of the individual event were today and I had to say goodbye to some of the linejudges.
I still remembered the things of the evening before and I remembered especially the story. Every time I saw the man who told me the story I laughed. I think I laughed the whole day except the moments of saying goodbye to some of the other linejudges.
I had to linejudge the second and the fourth match. I wanted to see the women’s singles so I was lucky. Rene had also the same matches as me, but every time Rene is linejudging he had a match with three games. So he was a team captain for the whole tournament but his team had also the three games every time. The first match (mixed doubles) started and the first game was for the Dutch players. The second game was for the German players. I look at Rene and I said that it was his fault. The third game was for the Dutch players again, so they were the new European Champion of the mixed doubles.
The next match was the women’s singles. It was a very tough match and I enjoyed the match.
The fourth match was also for me. It was again a third match. I look at Rene and he was smiling because it was again his fault:P.
The last match was not so special and it was time to say goodbye to some of the linejudges. I will miss them a lot.
We were back at the hotel and I packed my suitcase. I made pictures of the hotel room and I was making me ready for dinner. It was in the ATA hotel which was across our hotel. The food was better than the other restaurants.
It was our last night so we had some fun in the lobby. I went to sleep because I had to stand up on 3.30.
I had the next matches:
Jacco Arends & Selena Piek (NED) –
Jonas Geigenberger & Fabienne Deprez (GER)
Sylvain Grosjean (FRA) & Sam Magee (IRL) – Emil Holst & Mads Pedersen (DEN)

Monday 13 April: I couldn’t sleep the whole night and I woke up on 3.30. The bus came on 4.30 and I said goodbye to one of the staff members of the hotel. He was very kind and he remembered my room number because I wore the Inter Milan with Ibrahimovic. Every time he saw me he said Ibra or room 602.
We had a nice flight back, but the landing was a little bit strange.
The Dutch linejudges went back to Netty’s house and I was waiting there for my brother.

I had a very nice tournament and I won’t forget who I met there. Italian people are very kind and funny. I will really miss a lot of the linejudges and I will see them again in the future. Maybe as a linejudge or maybe as a umpire, who knows.
Special thanks for Netty, because she invited me for this awesome week! Up to the next tournament.

Enjoy here the pictures.
